Young musicians from Witham are heading for the international stage with a trip to Germany.

The five students from New Rickstones Academy, in Conrad Road, are taking part in the reunification celebration which takes place in Waldbrol once every three years.

As Witham is twinned with Waldbrol, the academy has close links with the town and has performed at this event twice before.

Anthea Roue, head of music, said: “During our visit, our students will perform at the celebration concert. They are used to performing at New Rickstones and locally in Witham, but performing on stage abroad is very different. Technology could be different and there’s the obvious language barrier. It will be great for them to experience German life as they will be staying with host families.”

The Year 10, 11 and 12 students, who have been given the trip as a reward for their dedication to the music department, will visit the twin town from October 1 to October 4 and stay with host families.

The trip has been partly funded by the Greensward Charitable Trust.
