At New Rickstones Academy we offer a curriculum which allows students to develop according to their needs. This allows for a wider curriculum for students who are ready for this and others additional time in the Core Subjects of Maths and English if they need it. Students select their options during year 8 and commence GCSE and equivalent courses in year 9.
In addition to the curriculum we also offer an extended curriculum with activities after 3.00 p.m. and in the holidays.
Through the curriculum we offer, we seek to provide students with rich learning experiences that will prepare them with skills, knowledge and understanding for their journey through life. We are mindful of the ever changing nature of the global society in which they live and the diversity of opportunities for employment and education that it offers. At the heart of all subject teaching is the encouragement of good relationships and tolerance.
Our tracking of students’ progress allows us to identify those students who may need extra help on a short term basis. We also have a curriculum inclusive of all students including those in need of longer term additional support. We currently offer one to one support, small group work, additional teaching time for English and Maths and support through our Inclusion room. Alongside the main school provision, we also offer a small alternative provision for a number of year 10 students who attend courses provided by local colleges. Our PHSEE & Citizenship Curriculum is taught through Lifeskills and the tutorial programme.
Should you require any further information on curriculum provision please contact: Dr Claire Drane, Vice-Principal.
