GETTING TO KNOW  …  THE LIBRARIAN

The Librarian provides a well-resourced, inviting and inclusive environment to foster the development of literacy skills, empowering students to become life-long learners, and to promote a love of literature. 

It also strives to satisfy the educational needs of all the members of our staff and student body and to ensure every student has access to a variety of quality, relevant and current information resources.

The general library goals shall be:

1. To serve students and staff  (users) alike.
2. To acquire and make available all books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other services as will address their needs to a) become well informed, b) locate answers to important questions, c) cultivate the imagination and creative expression, d) develop skills for career and vocational advancement, and e) enjoy leisure by means of reading and other media services.
3. To acquire the means to provide the most frequently requested material upon demand.
4. To maintain a program of service which locates information, guides reading, organises and interprets material for people of various backgrounds, and stimulates thinking and intellectual development in individuals of any age.
5. To consistently strive to discover new methods and improvements for better service for the library's users.
6. To regularly review these goals of the Library and, if necessary, revise them in the light of new developments.
7. To be fully involved in the Accelerated Reading Scheme including paired reading.

The Librarian encourages students to volunteer their time and efforts in the service of the Library and a team of 10 student librarians assist on a rota basis..

There are various competitions run throughout the academic year which all students have equal opportunity to engage in.

The library is open at break, lunch and after school until 4pm every day for student and staff access.

The librarian strives to create a bright, lively and informative environment with the use of displays which are changed and updated on a regular basis.
