Ben Shires Visit to NRA
New Rickstones Academy was showered with a bit of celebrity sparkle when TV Presenter, Ben Shires spent the day at the school on Thursday 17th May. A popular presenter on channel 4, BBC3 and Channel Dave, students were delighted to welcome the star who has recently worked with celebrities such as James Corden, Jo Brand and Paddy McGuinness (to name a few).
Ben spent the day with a variety of classes, including an enthusiastic group of Year 7s, who transformed their school ties into bow ties to emulate the presenter’s own fashion sense. A group of sixth form students, studying performing arts, got an excellent insight into the showbiz world with Ben revealing the inside to his career success and offering lots of helpful advice.
Ben is also well-known for his podcast ‘The Dave Weekly’ for channel Dave, in which he has interviewed an array of high-profile comedians, and has just recently won a prestigious iTunes award for the show. He shared tips about the podcast production and worked with a Year 8 class to create their own media piece. At the end of the day he also found time to discuss his recent successes with a large group of Year 10 students in the school library and allowed time for photos and autographs. Students were very appreciative of his appearance and all at New Rickstones hope to see him back here very soon!
Grand Opening

Grand Opening
On Tuesday 27th March we celebrated our moving to the fantastic new building with our official Opening Ceremony. We had invited guests including the Mayor and his wife, Councillors, Governors, Heads from our primary partner schools, our sister academy and representatives from the Academies Enterprise Trust and Carillion. It was a great occasion with tours for the guests which included a Dance installation and live music and then we all came together for the ceremony. We had two performances from the cast of Return to the Forbidden Planet and the plaque was unveiled by four students Joshua Rutland Armstrong House, Charmaine Hull Newton House, Daniel Bourke Darwin House and Emily Summers and Cara Wilsher from Turner House.
It was a lovely occasion to recognise that this building certainly will provide our students and the community with ‘A bright new future’.
